Tu1613 Characterization of Swine Models of Benign Esophageal Stricture for the Evaluation of Esophageal Stents.
Esophageal stents are used in the clinic to maintain esophageal luminal patency and for palliative care. Complications with current self-expanding metal and plastic stents include pain, tissue overgrowth, and migration (up to 60%). Naive swine models are not ideal for esophageal stent evaluation as stents frequently migrate into the stomach, and healthy animals do not mimic clinical conditions. We sought to establish a swine model of clinical benign esophageal stricture for better evaluation of next generation esophageal stents.

Co-designing Community Out-of-hours Palliative Care Services: A systematic literature search and review
CONCLUSION: Incorporating patients, families and carers priorities and preferences in the planning and designing of out-of-hours palliative care service is needed for service providers to deliver care that is more patient-centred. Adopting the principles of co-design may improve how out-of-hours care scan be delivered.PMID:36349547 | DOI:10.1177/02692163221132089

Development and validation of search filters to find articles on palliative care in bibliographic databases.
CONCLUSION:: Our search filters can support literature searches in the field of palliative care. Our specific filter retrieves 93.7% of relevant articles, while 45% of the retrieved articles are relevant. This filter can be used to find answers to questions when time is limited. Our sensitive filter finds 99.6% of all relevant articles and may, for instance, help conducting systematic reviews. Both filters perform better than prior developed search filters in the field of palliative care. PMID: 30688143 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Developing a computerised search to help UK General Practices identify more patients for palliative care planning: a feasibility study
Conclusions: It is possible to significantly improve the identification of patients for palliative care needs assessment using a computerised search however barriers remain to GPs’ finding it acceptable. Time-efficient systems were important as was a generic tool for anticipatory care planning not linked to ‘palliative’ care.

What People Search for When Browsing "Doctor Google." An Analysis of Search Trends in Italy after the Law on Pain.
Authors: Miceli L, Bednarova R, Bednarova I, Rizzardo A, Cobianchi L, Dal Mas F, Biancuzzi H, Bove T, Dal Moro F, Zattoni F Abstract Italy adopted a law on chronic pain in March 2010, which focused on detection and management of this symptom, that affects approximately 25% of the population. The aim of this study is to analyze the interest of the Italian population in palliative care and chronic pain and to understand whether the Law 38/2010 made an impact on the internet search on chronic pain. Five research parameters were included using Google Trends (chronic pain, anti-inflammatory drugs, opioids, fibromyalgia,...

Musculoskeletal pain in older adults at the end-of-life: a systematic search and critical review of the literature with priorities for future research
Conclusion: Priorities for future research include high quality epidemiological studies to establish the prevalence, natural history, impact, assessment, patient priorities and outcomes associated with musculoskeletal pain in the end of life period, and intervention research that provides an evidence base for treatment.

Voluntary stopping of eating and drinking at the end of life - a 'systematic search and review' giving insight into an option of hastening death in capacitated adults at the end of life
Conclusions: The included articles provide marginal insight into VSED for hastening death. Research is needed in the field of theory-building and should be based on qualitative studies from different perspectives (patient, family members, and healthcare workers) about physiological processes during VSED, and about the prevalence and magnitude of VSED. Based on these findings supportive care interventions for patients and family members and recommendations for healthcare staff should be developed and tested.

On glioblastoma and the search for a cure: where do we stand?
Abstract Although brain tumours have been documented and recorded since the nineteenth century, 2016 marked 90 years since Percival Bailey and Harvey Cushing coined the term "glioblastoma multiforme". Since that time, although extensive developments in diagnosis and treatment have been made, relatively little improvement on prognosis has been achieved. The resilience of GBM thus makes treating this tumour one of the biggest challenges currently faced by neuro-oncology. Aggressive and robust development, coupled with difficulties of complete resection, drug delivery and therapeutic resistance to treatment are some...

Digital Storytelling: Families' Search for Meaning after Child Death.
Authors: Rolbiecki AJ, Washington K, Bitsicas K Abstract Bereaved families that collectively make meaning of their grief experiences often function better than those that do not, yet most social work bereavement interventions target individuals rather than family units. In this article, authors describe an innovative social work intervention that employs digital storytelling. This is a narrative technique that combines photography, music, and spoken word to help families bereaved by child death make meaning of their loss and envision a future without their deceased child.
